How will Perryn Road Bridge be replaced?
Stage 1: Autumn 2005 to Spring 2007
Traffic and pedestrians NOT affected
- Construct sections of new bridge to east and west of existing bridge
- Construct foundations and supports
- Lift in steel beams and add concrete to complete bridge deck
- Install temporary footbridges across railway
- Complete service diversions
Stage 2: Spring 2007
- Pedestrians diverted onto temporary footbridges
- Two lanes of traffic diverted onto new bridge sections and two lanes diverted from east to west side of existing bridge
- Demolish east side of existing bridge and build new section
Stage 3: Spring 2007 to Summer 2008
- Two middle lanes of traffic diverted onto new east section of bridge
- Demolish final section of existing bridge
- Construct remaining section of new bridge
Stage 4: Summer 2008 to Spring 2009
- One remaining lane diverted from west section of new bridge
- Pedestrians diverted
- Remove temporary footbridge on west side of new bridge
Stage 5: Spring 2009 to Summer 2009
- Completion of bridge works and gradual diversion of traffic and pedestrians onto completed bridge
- Remove temporary footbridge on east side of new bridge
- Install toucan crossing for pedestrians and cyclists
- Remove existing footbridge over the A40 at Perryn Road
