Stage 1: Autumn 2005 to Spring 2007
Traffic and pedestrians NOT affected
- Construct sections of new bridge to east and west of existing bridge
- Construct foundations and supports
- Lift in steel beams and add concrete to complete bridge deck
- Install temporary footbridge across railway
- Complete service diversions
Stage 2: Spring 2007
- Four lanes of traffic diverted onto new section of bridge
- Pedestrians diverted from east and west side of road
Stage 3: Spring 2007 to Spring 2008
- Pedestrians diverted from west side of road
- Demolish and remove most of the existing bridge
Stage 4: Spring 2008 to Spring 2009
- Construct final section of new bridge
- Demolish final section of existing bridge
Stage 5: Spring 2009 to Summer 2009
- Completion of bridge works and gradual diversion of traffic and pedestrians onto completed bridge
